The Guadiana International Bridge, between Castro Marim and Ayamonte, will have traffic conditioned this summer, for a period of seven months, which will continue until the end of January next year.

“Within the scope of the requalification works of the International Bridge of the Guadiana, it is necessary to change the existing traffic conditioning, so that from June 29th, traffic circulation will be carried out on the north side of the International Bridge of the Guadiana (towards Spain / Portugal), in 1 × 1 copies ”explains a statement on the official website of IP – Infraestruturas de Portugal, a public company responsible for this infrastructure and for the management of the works, which have been underway for over a year.

In other words, during the advertised period, the car pass on this bridge will be limited to one lane in each direction, half of which is normal.

According to the information note, “on this crossing, the maximum permitted speed is 50 kilometers / hour and the width of each road will be limited to 2.90 meters, with the place being properly signposted”.

“It is planned to maintain this conditioning until the end of January 2021”, advance those responsible for IP, adding that “in this contract the contingency plans for mitigating the epidemiological situation caused by Covid-19, defined by IP and company that will carry out the work ”.

Traffic conditioning on the International Bridge of the Guadiana in the middle of summer promises to be another headache for tourism businessmen, local authorities in the region and tourists in general, at a time when the Algarve is looking by all means to find the means of to revitalize the sector and the economy, which were already badly affected by the Covid-19 outbreak.

Remember that the bridge between Ayamonte and Castro Marim / Vila Real de Santo António is one of the border crossings with the highest traffic volume between Portugal and Spain, particularly in the summer season.

For the week, next Wednesday, July 1, an official ceremony for the reopening of land borders between Portugal is scheduled, which will be attended by the prime ministers of both countries, António Costa and Pedro Sánchez, as well as the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and the King of Spain, Felipe VI.
