Tradition restored: these four-legged friends also become new residents of the White House | 2020 US elections

Most US presidents took at least one pet – often dogs and cats – to the presidential residence in the US capital. John Adams, the second president in US history and the first to live in the White House, started the tradition and spent his time in the official residence with a collection of pets, including three dogs and two horses. He was president from 1797 to 1801.

More recently, Barack Obama introduced dogs Bo and Sunny, George W. Bush had three dogs (Spotty, Barney and Miss Beasley) and a cat (India ‘Willie’) and also chose Bill Clinton with dog Buddy and cat Socks for animal companionship in the White House.
