Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi urged the public not to panic or buy panic buying cooking oil for Rp. 14 thousand per liter, which will be disbursed simultaneously on Wednesday (19/1) tomorrow.
“I urge the public not to panic buying or buying excessively, because the government has guaranteed the supply and stock of cooking oil at a price of Rp. 14,000 per liter, which can certainly meet the needs of the entire community,” he said at a press conference, Wednesday (19/1) night.
He explained that cooking oil for Rp. 14,000 per liter was the result of the government’s collaboration with the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDPKS), which disbursed levy funds of up to Rp. 7.6 trillion.
The funds are used to stabilize the price of cooking oil in the market and finance packaged cooking oil of 250 million liters per month or around Rp. 1.5 billion liters for the next six months.
“I appreciate 34 cooking oil producers who have expressed their commitment to participate in providing packaged cooking oil at one price for all people,” he said.
Previously, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto ensured that one price of cooking oil, at Rp. 14 thousand per liter, would be distributed starting tomorrow.
Its implementation will take precedence across modern retail chains, such as supermarkets. Especially for traditional markets, he said that the adjustment period would be no later than one week from the effective date.
Airlangga explained that the distribution of cooking oil was carried out by the government to cover the difference in the price of cooking oil to meet the needs of households, micro industries and small industries.
Efforts to close the price difference are not only given to cooking oil in one liter packaging, but also for cooking oil in packages of 2 liters, 5 liters, and 25 liters.
