Track rider Olivia Podmore has died aged 24 | track cycling

6 years ago, Olivia Podmore won silver and bronze in the team sprint and the time trial (500 meters) at the World Junior Track Cycling Championships.

Podmore also took part in the team sprint in Rio at the 2016 Games. The New Zealander could not get a ticket for the Games in Tokyo.

Podmore had a hard time with that. “Sport is a great outlet. When you win, there is no other feeling that can match that,” she wrote on social media.

“But if you lose, if you don’t get selected or if you’re injured, you have a feeling that can’t be compared to other feelings.”

The New Zealand Cycling Federation is devastated by the death. “Olivia was very much loved and respected within our national team. We are now trying to support the people who were close to her.”
