Tracing the River Flow where the Flash Flood in Batu City Begins

Stone Town

It’s true what the residents say if the river occurs Flash floods called Dead Time. Called Kali Mati because the water never flows like a normal river.

This is also evidenced by ProFauna Indonesia’s search to the upper reaches of the river, after the flash flood occurred. Head of ProFauna Indonesia, Rosek Nursahid, said that for the past two days a team has been dispatched to explore the river, where the flash flood occurred.

The team carried out the mapping starting from Bulukerto Village, Bumiaji District, Batu City, towards the headwaters of the river on the slopes of Mount Arjuno. On foot, the team finally reached the head of the river. Where, found no running water there.

“So it’s a dead river, upstream there is no water. The distance is more than 2 kilometers from the affected point (Bulukerto), we are still doing the mapping,” said Rosek talking to detikcom, Saturday (6/11/2021).

The mapping carried out is to record the flow of the flood which causes flash floods. Including landslide points along the river flow.

“The team is again noting where the floodwaters came from, including the landslide points upstream of the river. For two days, we are in the field,” he said.

Rosek explained that the river where there was a flash flood actually had no water or no water.

“That’s called Pusung Lading in the Bulukerto area, its location is above Mount Pucung, just below the affected area. Flash floods pretty bad,” he explained.

The small river in Pusung Lading is a dry river. Only when it rains heavily, the water flows downstream.

Rosek added that during the search the team found several landslide points. When the team climbed the landslide point, it turned out that there was an open area planted with vegetables.
