Toyota started selling the first hydrogen car in the Czech Republic

While the first generation Toyota Mirai, which has sold 11,000 units worldwide since 2014, has made more of a marketing path and Hyundai Nexo has a similar role in the Czech Republic so far. Toyota’s Czech representation is the first to introduce a hydrogen car to domestic sales.

Prices for the second generation Toyota Mirai start at 1.7 million crowns in the Comfort version and 1.8 million crowns in the Executive version. For 2 million crowns, there is the Executive equipment with a VIP package.

For a very narrow group of customers, the car is designed not only because of its price, but also due to the limited possibilities of pumping hydrogen. Currently, only publicly inaccessible stations are available.

The first two public hydrogen filling stations in Prague and Litvínov should be put into operation this year. In addition to the pump in Prague’s Barrandov, a second one should be added next year in Horní Počernice and Brno. In 2023, another in Pilsen.

The price of hydrogen has not yet been set in the Czech Republic, in Germany it is around ten euros per kilogram, ie in terms of about 2.20 CZK per kilometer, which is roughly comparable to a diesel car of the same class.

Just water

Hydrogen gas refueling works via a filling valve at a pressure of 700 bar. During operation, pure hydrogen from the tanks combines with the oxygen sucked in by the compressors in the front part of the car, and the final reaction then takes place in the fuel cell under the hood of the car. The resulting electrical energy drives an electric motor, and the only waste of this reaction is pure water.

The second-generation Toyota Mirai is a 4,975-meter luxury rear-wheel drive sedan built on the new GA-L (Global Architecture Lexus) platform. It has a total system power of 134 kW (182 hp), which allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 9 seconds and a maximum speed of 175 km / h. Hydrogen fuel weighing 5.6 kg can hold three high-pressure tanks at the rear.
