Toyota Motor Company plans to build a third car factory in India, increasing production capacity in the country for the first time in more than ten years, as it works with its partner Suzuki to enhance production, according to what Reuters reported, citing informed sources.
One of the sources said that the largest automaker in the world wants to start the factory with a capacity ranging between 80,000 to 120,000 cars annually, which could rise to about 200,000 over time.
The proposed initial capacity of the new plant would expand Toyota’s current manufacturing capacity in India by up to 30 percent from the current 400,000 vehicles.
According to Reuters, Toyota has also begun developing a new sport utility vehicle (SUV) for the Indian market, which will be launched in early 2026 and will be a core product for the new plant.
