The Japanese automobile company “Toyota Motor Corp.” sold a record number of cars last year and retained the title of the world’s largest car manufacturer, as its sales volume exceeded that of German rival Volkswagen for the fourth year in a row, according to data released on Tuesday.
Toyota sold 11.2 million cars last year, which is 7.2% more than a year earlier.
Meanwhile, the volume of sales of the “Volkswagen” group in 2023 increased by 12% – up to 9.2 million units.
“Toyota” states that the company’s sales volume last year was positively affected by the strong demand in all regions and the reduction of the shortage of semiconductors.
However, the South Korean automobile company “Hyundai Motor” and its sister company “Kia Motors” ranked third in the world in terms of the number of cars sold last year with 7.3 million cars sold.
“Toyota” regained the status of the world’s largest car manufacturer, which was lost in 2016, in 2020.
