Towards new fuel shortages? “We could run out of gas at the end of the week”, warns the boss of Intermarché

Possible renewable strikes from Tuesday March 7 revive the specter of fuel shortages.

They want to put France “off” by strikes on March 7 against the pension reform. Some unions, such as the CGT and Solidaires, even call for a renewable strike. Among the sectors that could be affected by these movements: that of refineries and oil depots, whose employees had already mobilized in February against the text of the government, which plans in particular to shift the legal age of retirement from 62 to 64 years. For this new mobilization, the CGT Chimie called in particular to stop work from this Monday, March 6, considering an extension of the strike.

“We could run out of gas at the end of the week”

What to fear supply problems in service stations? The president of the Les Mousquetaires group (Intermarché brands) expressed his “worry” this Monday at the microphone of RTL. And to explain the reasons for such fear: If the refineries are blocked, we could run out of gas at the end of the week”. Thierry Cotillard therefore appeals to the “civility” and the liability of motorists.

A concern that does not seem justified for the moment, since no service station lacks fuel in France, the stocks of gasoline and diesel being quite high. “We are currently at a maximum stock level which more or less corresponds to three to four months of consumption”, reassured Olivier Gantois, executive chairman of Ufip Energies and Mobilities a few days ago.
