The measures remain in force until July 26

Tourists on the island of Mykonos were surprised by a five-hour night curfew and a ban on music. Authorities have imposed restrictive measures to control the spread of the coronavirus on the island.

The most expensive and popular Greek island of Mykonos fell silent. Music in the restaurants is completely banned, the evening time from 1 o’clock after midnight empties the streets. Tourists are leaving the island en masse, reservations have stopped, restaurants are almost empty, according to workers in the tourism sector of the island.

Tighter measures against Mykonos’ COVID-19

The owners of nightclubs – bars and discos – accuse the government of “irresponsibility”.

The opposition Syriza made a statement claiming that the government, and in particular Prime Minister Mitsotakis, has no crisis management strategy.

The measures will remain in force until July 26, if coronavirus cases do not fall significantly.
Authorities blame mostly young tourists who do not keep their distance and do not wear masks in restaurants.

Will the new measures against COVID-19 in Greece affect tourism in the country

Police received information that night parties were being organized in private villas, yachts and ships, despite the ban. The police have launched drones to monitor the movement of tourists. A fine of 50,000 euros is envisaged for violations.
