Tourist (23) falls into crater of volcano Vesuvius after taking selfie | Abroad

The local authorities report this to Italian media. The young man was standing with his family on top of the Italian volcano and wanted to take a selfie. However, his phone fell into the crater afterwards. He tried to grab his precious smartphone, but then fell several meters into the volcano himself.

Guides from Vesuvius descended to free the man. All this under the supervision of a rescue helicopter. He suffered minor injuries from the fall.

According to Italian newspapers, the tourist and his family are accused of taking a forbidden route to the top. They would have walked a path marked as ‘strictly prohibited’ because it would be extremely dangerous.

Mount Vesuvius, which destroyed the ancient Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, is considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world. This is because of the millions of people who live close enough, for example in Naples, to be affected by an eruption.
