ANNEMASSE – Saturday’s 14th stage of the Tour de France bicycle race was temporarily stopped due to a mass crash.

About five kilometers after the sharp start in Annemasse, a large part of the peloton fell in the descent. The organizers immediately neutralized the race and stopped the riders. In the end, however, Spaniard Antonio Pedrero (Movistar), South African Louis Meintjes (Intermarche Circus-Wanty) and Esteban Chaves from Colombia (EF Education–EasyPost) had to retire.

After a short break, the stage was restarted, but several riders suffered injuries and abrasions. Among them, the third man overall, Australian Jai Hindley (Bora-hansgrohe). After the fall, Chaves also tried it for a while, but after a few kilometers he also ended this year’s Tour prematurely.

It was the first mass fall on this year’s tour, the first man in the overall ranking, Denmark’s Jonas Vingegaard, and the second Tadej Pogačar from Slovenia avoided it. The collision occurred in a wet corner.
