Shortly before the end of the year, the Toronto Raptors surprise with a trade for German NBA star Dennis Schröder.
As NBA insider and ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski announced on Saturday evening (December 30th), the Raptors are finalizing a trade package that will send forward OG Anunoby and Precious Achiuwa to the New York Knicks.

“New York has been pursuing Anunoby for some time and will now get a head start on recruiting him as a free agent in the summer,” Wojnarowski said on social media.
Above all, the winger’s strength at both ends of the pitch “made him a target across the league”.

Although there have been trade rumors surrounding the Raptors and Anunoby for a long time, the timing now comes as a surprise to many. This may just be the beginning of several trades for the franchise to enter rebuild mode.
In return for Anunoby and Achiuwa, the Raptors receive RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley as well as a second-round pick from the New York Knicks via the Detroit Pistons.

The surprising trade caused a stir, with opinions escalating on social media in particular. There was no clear opinion as to who got the better package in the trade.

“I’m still processing the trade. I always believed very strongly in RJ (editor RJ Barrett) and IQ (Immanuel Quickley) was also an important piece of the puzzle for us. I will miss both of them very much,” wrote Knicks fan Stiller.
Quickley reacts to trade to Toronto Raptors
“Oh my goodness…”, 24-year-old Quickley himself reacted via X a few minutes after the trade was announced.

The Raptors are currently in twelfth place in the Eastern Conference (12 wins and 19 defeats) and therefore not in a playoff spot. You would also not qualify for the play-in tournament, which is completed by the teams ranked seven to ten.
Things are looking much better for the Knicks, who are in seventh place in the East (17 wins and 14 defeats).
