Tornado alert lifted near Ottawa

OTTAWA | Once again, Ottawa and its surrounding areas were caught in a tornado alert Monday evening following severe thunderstorms in the region.

According to Environment Canada, a violent thunderstorm sounded in the early evening in the vicinity of Galetta, west of the federal capital, and was moving east. The municipalities of Carp, Kinburn, Marathon, Dunrobin, Malwood and Mud Pond were also affected.

“At 5:39 pm EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are monitoring a severe thunderstorm possibly producing a tornado. Destructive winds, heavy hail and intense rain in places are also possible, ”meteorologists warned.

The tornado alert was lifted approximately an hour after it was issued.

However, the Ottawa area remained on the alert for severe thunderstorms in the evening. The passage of the low could be accompanied by gusts of up to 90 km / h and hail, warned Environment Canada

Eastern Ontario is gradually becoming familiar with the tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings, which have followed one another for the past few weeks in the region. In particular, a tornado struck the municipality of Camden East earlier this month, damaging buildings and knocking down utility poles and trees.
