+++RAIL STRIKE: HAMBURG S-BAHN OFFERS EMERGENCY OPERATION+++

The German Locomotive Drivers’ Union (GDL) has called for a 35-hour strike today and tomorrow. In Hamburg, the S-Bahn is also affected. The strike on rail passenger transport began at 2 a.m. on Thursday night and is expected to last until 1 p.m. tomorrow. The Hamburg S-Bahn is also on strike. As with previous work stoppages, an emergency timetable should apply until the end of the strike. Passengers are still asked to use buses and subways if possible. NDR 90.3 city reporter Karsten Sekund knows how commuters have prepared for this new strike.

The listed Schiller Opera in Hamburg’s St. Pauli district is in better shape than expected. This was the result of a report commissioned by the cultural authority. The Office for Monument Protection has been arguing with the owner since 2014 over the preservation of the historic steel frame. The owner would like to tear it down. A much more extensive investigation by the authorities now shows that this is not true at all.
