Gita Gopinath, chief economist of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), said:
Energy prices have risen very sharply due to the strong economic recovery in the world from the corona crisis. Factors such as a limited supply on the oil and gas market also play a role. In Europe, gas prices have hit records and there are even concerns about shortages as the winter season approaches.
But according to Gopinath, relief should come in the first quarter of next year and then continue into the second quarter. “Once we get through the winter months, we will be in a better position,” said the IMF economist.
