What news is there in the municipalities, which excursion destinations are worth seeing, which events will take place as soon as the pandemic is over? Several municipalities and cities in the region use Instagram to keep residents and tourists updated. In our series, we present the top accounts from each district.

Zollernalbkreis – For our selection we compared the official accounts of the cities, municipalities and districts. The decisive factor was whether the account is still being actively operated and the number of subscribers.

Balingen

The county seat balingen.de has 2083 followers (as of March 11th). Most of the 340 posts are kept very factual and informative, landscape images rarely appear in the feed. Instead, the posts and their descriptions inform citizens about the latest news, for example about the corona crisis, the state elections, the construction sites, and the school operations.

The only archived story shows open job advertisements in the city administration.

At the beginning of the pandemic in April 2020, Balingen has a video of the government_bw reposts on the correct handling of a mask. This is the only contribution to be found in the IGTV area.

Zollernalbkreis

Next comes the zollernalbkreis with 1727 subscribers and 62 posts. The district office’s canal is not even a year old – it was founded on July 14, 2020.

Many landscape photos appear under the posts, the descriptions mostly contain background information on the motif – for example the Danube-Zollernalb-Weg, the campaign “Blooming Zollernalbkreis”, or city cycling. In other contributions, however, communities or places are presented.

The district office presents information of various kinds in its own format “From Alb to Future”. In front of a map of the Zollernalbkreis, the account operator then presents information – how many cities and communities there are in the district, the start of online appointments in the Corona outpatient clinic in 2020, or just congratulations for the new year.

There are also several IGTV videos on various topics on the platform, with the online citizens’ dialogues dominating in particular. These also form a category for the pinned stories. Further story topics are “Openings ZAK”, “SARS-CoV-2”, “Training”, “KIZ”, and “Art Prize 2020”.

Albstadt

The largest city in the Zollernalb district, Albstadt, has two Instagram accounts, one for the city and one for tourism. We introduce both of them.

Tourism: albstadttourismus has 1,347 followers and 43 posts. As the name of the page suggests, the feed contains articles about excursion destinations, hiking routes, local gastronomy and products from Albstadt. The hiking trails eaves and the hosts along the routes are mentioned particularly often.

There are no stories or IGTV videos, but Albstadttourismus has already tried out the new Instagram function Reels. With its help, users can share short videos and add sound and effects to them. The short video is about the Alb-Gold Wadenbeißer-Trail of the Bikezone Albstadt, which opened in 2017.

City: The second official account is called Stadtalbstadt. The main aim of the channel with 1571 followers and 141 posts is to inform users about what’s new in the city. A major focus lately has been on the city library. During the pandemic, it started the “Media Tips of the Month” campaign. Employees present two books per month.

Otherwise, events are accompanied and announced in the contributions, news is transmitted and current topics from the city administration are communicated.

The only story comes from the Albstadt City Open Air 2018. The account has already created two IGTV videos: about the concert on the truck in pandemic and a contribution from the city library.

Meßstetten

The team from the press and public relations department of the city administration operates the account city.messstetten. 1257 subscribers follow the page with the 161 contributions. Above all, these inform the public. Topics in the feed include the state elections, announcements of municipal council meetings, and the corona pandemic. The city administration frequently publishes reposts of the Baden-Württemberg government on the latter.

stadt.messstetten has already published several IGTV videos. The topics are different and range from toilet paper challenges to a look back at the 2019 Christmas market to an insight into the Tieringen daycare center after the renovation.

Some stories are also archived and listed in the categories “Landtag elections”, “#rathausrunde”, “Kreisimpfzentrum”, “Advent Calendar”, “Blumersberg” and “Sommertour”.
