Top 14: Jaminet formalizes his departure from Perpignan for Toulouse at the end of the season

The arrival of France’s XV Melvyn Jaminet has been confirmed thursday night that he will leave Perpignan at the end of the season to join Stade Toulousain, champion of France and Europe in title, where he signed for three years.

“It’s a choice that has caused a lot of talk and I’m going to be able to talk about it tonight. I made the decision to go to Toulouse for the next three seasons. It was not an easy choice (…) ( Perpignan) it’s a club that matters to me, which made me rise very high”, explained Jaminet, 22, at the microphone of Canal +. “The fact of going through Perpignan which gave me this opportunity to play professional then to arrive in the France team and there, to be able to sign in Toulouse next season, necessarily it is an evolution. I also want to ‘evolve in my career and I think it will go through Stade Toulouse”, continued the back and scorer of the Blues (11 selections), during the program “Late Rugby Club”. Trained in Toulon where he had failed to turn professional, Jaminet had relaunched himself in amateur rugby before revealing himself in Perpignan in Pro D2.

His very good 2020-2021 season with Usap, marked by a rise in the Top 14, had attracted the attention of the coach of the XV of France Fabien Galthié who had offered him his first capes during the tour in Australia last July then that Jaminet had not yet played in the club elite. He has since established himself as the holder of the Blues at fullback and participated in the conquest of the Grand Slam during the last Six Nations Tournament, the first for France since 2010.

François Rivière, president of Usap “understands” and “regrets this sporting choice”. He points out moreover “problems”: “Is it normal and above all fair that a Club recovers all the JIFF players available and has 15 or 20 internationals? Is it normal that the clubs are not better valued and therefore interested in the transfer of players they have trained Shouldn’t we think about changing the rules? […] ?”
