Top 10 Independent Games to Look Forward to in 2023

Autumn has come, some of October has flown by and we are actually closer to its end than its beginning. This means that there are just over two months left until the end of the year, and that is very little time. Before we know it, we’ll barely blink and we’ll be celebrating Christmas and then the New Year. The pace is deadly and it’s actually difficult to find even a moment to catch your breath today.

It is similar in the case of the video game industry, where more and more titles are released. And all this is due to the increasingly easier access to various types of programs, training and courses, as well as almost free options when it comes to tools that help transform the deepest corners of our imagination into works of virtual entertainment. There are record numbers of developers in India today!

Of course, this has its disadvantages (because it is much more difficult to break out of generic and boring titles), but there are also advantages – there are a lot of creative games created with passion and from the heart. These are simply the most enjoyable games to play. And today, as part of this year’s last part about independent games, I have prepared for you ten games that are still worth waiting for in 2023! Here we go!

World of Horror (October 19)

Let’s start with the title that will be released tomorrow. Well, it is worth specifying that it will be released in its full version, because it has been in Early Access since 2020 and is doing really well. The game by Paweł Koźmiński draws heavily on the atmosphere of Lovecraft, as well as the works of the Japanese horror master, Junji Ito. The return of ancient gods, secrets, darkness and great narrative importance – that’s what you can count on here.

Builderment (October 24)

Every now and then a game appears on the market whose main goal is to understand automation processes and then supervise our factories and slightly optimize how they perform. Builderment from the small Builderment LLC will operate on similar principles. If you like to think a little, plan and strive for the best possible performance of your buildings in games, you will find a great place here.

Stray Souls (October 25)

Action horror from Jukai Studio is for many people one of the most anticipated titles of this year. And for people who love playing titles that evoke fear and terror, this is almost a must-have. Everything looks great in the trailers and gameplay materials and gives the impression of an atmosphere where the atmosphere will be so thick that you can cut it even with a knife. We could get the start of a great series.

Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire (October 31)

Another production that has been doing well in Early Access for several months now. And it seems that this year’s Halloween is the perfect time to release it. Although the idea of the world itself is quite dark, its depiction brings to mind rather loose cartoons. You know – like a juxtaposition of ghosts with the story of Kacperek. I buy this convention because it looks great.

Jusant (October 31)

On the same day, one of the most recognizable titles on this list will probably be released – Jusant from DON’T NOD, whose presentation during the summer shows did not go unnoticed. The idea of creating a climbing puzzle right from the start sounds like something that could be successful. And I have the impression that if the game is as enjoyable as the developers promise, we will have a small hit this year.

Broken Roads (14 listopada)

An RPG with pillars of strategic combat, deception and choice?! Sounds like a mix of Fallout and Disco Elysium! And it appeals to me one hundred percent. And setting everything in post-apocalyptic Australia only adds flavor, after all, few titles offer us a tour of such areas. I can’t wait and I admit that if I find time, I’m going to play this year!

Loddlenaut (November 16)

If you ask me what it is about this game that attracts me so much, then… I have no idea if I’ll be able to answer. She has a certain charm and innocent atmosphere that makes you want to relax with her. We play the role of a guardian of natural environments, whose task is to cleanse the great ocean of pollution. Apart from that, we will have to do a lot of sightseeing, discover a lot and help a lot.

Lost Viking: Kingdom of Women

Adventure survival in Nordic climates and with a wolf friend by your side? Well, I won’t lie to you – I’m sold! Visually, we’re certainly not dealing with anything groundbreaking here, but in many respects it looks simply good. The biggest advantage is the management requirement – mainly energy and raw materials. If you like this atmosphere, you will have a great time.

Doodle God Universe*

As a kid, I loved playing all these simple games on the Internet, where I played the role of a chemist (or even an alchemist) and, having only a few raw materials, my task was to reach the point where I would develop their resources. In the game from JoyBits Ltd. we are given four basic minerals to start with and we have to bring about a situation in which our empty planet begins to teem with life. Sounds great (and the demo is available now)!

*The game was previously available on Apple Arcade

PixelShire

Well, I won’t lie… The Kappa Bits game is totally to my taste and of course our list couldn’t miss a typical, relaxing city builder with elements of combat and a farming simulator. The whole thing may be strongly reminiscent of Stardew Valley, although with slightly different graphics. Nevertheless, if the last update of the mentioned item is about to take place, it is worth having another one take its place. And the potential is here!
