JAKARTA – Deputy General Chairperson of the Indonesian Ulema Council ( MULTI-FUNCTION ) Anwar Abbas evaluates the label halal Indonesia, which was launched by the Ministry of Religion’s Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH), puts too much emphasis on art. As a result, the halal label does not appear to be written in Arabic.

“For me, the Arabic script doesn’t appear to be in Arabic. It puts too much emphasis on art, yes. It puts too much emphasis on local nuances,” Anwar told MNC Portal Indonesia, Saturday (12/3/2022).

According to Anwar, the thick local nuances in the Halal Label statement will lead to mistakes. Arabs do not understand the writing. “Arabs don’t even know that it’s Arabic writing. So only he knows. But people around the world understand that ordinary Arabic writing knows it’s halal,” he said.

Anwar explained that the religious nuances contained in the halal label have now disappeared, due to putting too much emphasis on art and drowning out its meaning. “In fact, the religious meaning is lost, if you don’t see the Arabic writing, even though it is Arabic. The Arabic word is drowned by his art,” he said.

Even though the halal label is considered beautiful, it should not have to lose its meaning and virtue itself. “It’s beautiful, it’s beautiful, it’s just that people don’t understand what it is. If a Christian reads the writing is halal, he knows, oh yes, it’s halal. But if people don’t understand, they’re confused,” he said.
