Paris (AFP) – Four-time NBA champion Tony Parker is among a shortlist of basketball greats selected to be inducted into the Hall of Fame with the Class of 2023 unveiled Wednesday by the North American Basketball League.

The French playmaker, who spent most of his NBA career at the San Antonio Spurs (2001-2018), won four league titles in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2014.

His appointment to this “Hall of Fame” where great personalities of basketball are honored (players, coaches, referees, managers, etc.), was awaited by his two former acolytes Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili, with whom he formed the “Spurs’ Big Three” were inducted in 2021 and 2022.

The 40-year-old former PSG Racing point guard competes with other players who have marked the NBA, such as three-time champion fullback Dwyane Wade (consecrated with Miami 2006, 2012, 2013), German infielder Dirk Nowitzki (consecrated with Dallas in 2011), Spanish infielder Pau Gasol (a two-time champion with the Lakers in 2009 and 2010) and former Detroit point guard and current Portland head coach Chauncey Billups.

Also among the nominees are iconic Spurs manager Gregg Popovich, his former Spurs assistant Becky Hammon and former referee Joey Crawford.

Finalists will be announced during All Star Game weekend in Salt Lake City on February 17, 2023, with winners announced on April 1. The endowment ceremony will take place on Saturday, August 12, in the Springfield Massachusetts Temple.
