While the last episode of Tonight at …, dedicated to Naples, the public profile of Alberto Angela it was literally stormed by thousands of Neapolitans who thanked the popular Piedmontese science writer for his latest work. A real web ovation, a faithful mirror of the enthusiasm of the Neapolitans exalted by the city broadcast on the first Rai network.
If the Neapolitans particularly appreciated the story of the foundation of Partenope and the splendor of underground Naples, however, the true apotheosis was reached with the passage on San Gregorio Armeno and with the story of Naples by Maradona. Powerful images that counterbalanced other images – including the latest Rai documentary signed by Corrado Augias last April – that the Neapolitans liked much less. “In one stroke – reads one of the many comments that are flooding Alberto Angela’s Facebook profile – you have swept away commonplaces and prejudices about our city, rendering a magnificent service and making us leave the story of Gomorrah”.
Just a few days ago, in fact, the last season of the series born from the book by Roberto Saviano ended and many Neapolitans wanted to emphasize the appreciation for the change of course in the narration of a city that does not resign itself to being – at least not only – the Naples of Gomorrah. And, on the other hand, it was Angela himself who pointed out the thousand facets of a city that cannot and must not resign itself to negative stereotypes: “With this episode of Tonight in … – he wrote – we tried to illuminate Naples with the light it deserves, also thanks to the magic that this special evening is able to convey. Often, in fact, the chronicles tend to focus on its shadows, which we do not intend to ignore, which must be identified and fought. But Naples is not just this. Naples is above all light. And it is precisely this light that we want to shine tonight, exactly as we did for the other cities ».
