According to Adam Korol, who was the vice-president of the Polish Association of Rowing Societies, Tomasz Tobiak died on Thursday night. In recent years, he has worked, among others as the dean of the Faculty of Physical Education at the University of Physical Education in Gdańsk. In recent months, he was in the hospital waiting for a heart transplant operation. He was 52 years old.

Tomasz Tomiak’s greatest success was by far the bronze medal at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, ​​won in the rowing foursome competition with the helmsman, composed of Maciej Łasicki, Wojciech Jankowski, Jacek Streich and Michał Cieślak, who served as the helmsman in the crew.

However, these were not the only successes of Tomiak. In 1991 and 1993, he also won the bronze medal of the world championships twice, but in the competition of fours without a helmsman. He was also on the highest step of the podium eighteen times during the Polish championship. He ended his sports career in 1995.
