He was once considered the young god among sports journalists, first at Sporza, later at VTM. In 2018, Tom Coninx (now 48) disappeared from the screen. He moved to Italy, where he now lives about half of the time with his wife and their son Paolo (1). In Dag Allemaal Coninx, who also has two older children, talks about fatherhood.
He is “glad that we now live in different times”, it sounds. “When I first became a dad, everyone was captivated by the ‘new man’ hype: as a dad you also had to change pampers, do the ironing, clean… Fortunately, they don’t have that trend in the south. A man can still be a man, I like that.”
He makes it clear again a little later that Coninx is not in favor of ‘the new man’. “Sometimes the emancipation goes too far in my opinion, a mother can simply do those tasks more naturally. Luigia does a great job and is such a fantastic mom.”
