Tokyo asks for Interpol’s “red notice” for Carole Ghosn

Japanese authorities have asked Interpol to issue a wanted notice, “red notice”, from Interpol for Carole Ghosn, the wife of former Nissan president and Renault Carlos Ghosn who fled to Lebanon, reported local press on Saturday.

If this “red notice” were to be issued, the Ghosn couple could see their chances of traveling outside Lebanon diminish, writes the newspaper Mainichi. Citing unidentified sources, the newspaper and other Japanese media sources said that Tokyo’s request was made on Thursday.

The ex-boss of Renault-Nissan is not allowed to leave Lebanon

No comments were immediately obtained from the Japanese Ministry of Justice. Carlos Ghosn, who has French, Lebanese and Brazilian nationalities, is not allowed to leave Lebanon and had to keep the authorities informed of his place of residence.

Carlos Ghosn was to be tried for financial embezzlement

The businessman fled Japan at the end of December, where he had been under house arrest since April last and was to be tried on charges of financial embezzlement.

Speaking publicly for the first time since arriving in Lebanon, where he spent his childhood, Carlos Ghosn said on Wednesday that he was the victim of a conspiracy and denounced the conditions under which he had been detained and then assigned to residency in Japan.

Japan and Lebanon have no extradition agreements.
