The Slovak national team in swimming Richard Nagy did not advance to the finals of the 400 m position race at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. In Saturday’s second race, the 28-year-old native from Želiezovce took the sixth place with a time of 4: 18.29 min. He lagged behind his own Slovak record from the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (4: 13.87 min) by more than four seconds.
In the overall ranking, the Slovak swimmer finished in 23rd position among 29 starters and did not qualify for the eight-member final. The best time in the heats was achieved by Brendon Smith from Australia in the ocean record 4: 09.27 min.
Tokyo’s meltdowns brought a big surprise, as the home Japanese Deija Seto did not fight his way to the medal fights. One of the biggest favorites for gold swam time 4: 10.52 in the fourth heat, which was not enough to advance.
Richard Nagy is waiting for another start in Tokyo, on Monday, July 26, he will present a butterfly in the 200 m heats. In the swimming pool, Slovakia is also represented by Andrea Podmaníková, who will have a 100 m breaststroke on Sunday and twice the distance on Wednesday.
