In the Tohoku region ahead, the weather is expected to change periodically. It will rain widely from June 2nd (Fri) to 3rd (Sat), and depending on the movement of Typhoon No. 2 and the front, there is a risk of heavy rain mainly in the southern Tohoku region. There will be some sunny days next week, and the start of the rainy season in the Tohoku region is expected to be the same as in an average year.

[First half]Widespread rain from 2nd (Fri) to 3rd (Sat), fear of heavy rain mainly in southern Tohoku

Tomorrow, the 30th (Tuesday), the front is expected to move slightly southward compared to today. Cold air will flow into the sky, so the weather will be changeable even if it is sunny. There is a risk of thunderstorms in the afternoon, mainly along the mountains in northern Tohoku. Be careful of lightning strikes, gusts of wind, sudden heavy rain, etc.

From 31st (Wednesday) to June 1st (Thursday), it is expected to be mostly sunny with a mobile high pressure system. UV rays peak around noon, so apply sunscreen and block the sun with a hat or parasol.

From the 2nd (Friday) to the 3rd (Saturday), the front is expected to stay near Honshu. The warm and moist air around the typhoon will flow toward the front, so the front is expected to become more active. It will rain over a wide area, and there is a risk of active rain clouds centering on the southeastern part of the country. Even if you are away from the typhoon, you need to pay attention to how the rain falls.
Depending on the movement of Typhoon No. 2 and the front, the rainfall pattern and time of day may change. Please check the latest forecast frequently.

From the 4th (Sun) to the 5th (Mon), it will likely rain mainly in the southern Tohoku region. In the southern part of Tohoku, it will rain intermittently from the 2nd (Friday), and there is a possibility that it will rain for a long time.

Prepare for heavy rain (check evacuation sites and evacuation routes, prepare emergency supplies, clean gutters, etc.)

If heavy rain is expected, we would like to minimize the damage caused by the disaster as much as possible. For that purpose, there are three things you should prepare in advance.

① Confirm evacuation sites and evacuation routes. In the event of a disaster caused by heavy rain, evacuation routes may become impassable or it may be impossible to reach evacuation sites. It is important to check multiple evacuation sites and evacuation routes. Also, avoid choosing evacuation routes that are at high risk of flooding or landslides, such as not passing near rivers or slopes. Share the confirmed evacuation site and evacuation route information with your family.

② Prepare emergency supplies. Put your emergency items in a backpack or something that allows you to use both hands, and put them in a place where you can easily take them out. When evacuating, it is safer to prepare sneakers or other shoes with thick soles that are easy to walk in. Also, prepare water and food in case lifelines such as water and electricity stop.

③ Clean gutters, etc. to improve drainage. Make sure it is not clogged with gravel, fallen leaves, garbage, etc.

In any case, please try to prepare as early as possible before the heavy rain hits.

[Second half]Even on sunny days, there is no sign of the beginning of the rainy season

On June 6th (Tuesday), it will rain in the southern part of the Tohoku region, and there will be showers in the northern part of the Tohoku region.

On the 7th (Wednesday), it will be sunny over a wide area, and the further north you go, the longer the sunny hours are expected.

From the 8th (Thursday) to the 9th (Friday), there will be more clouds in the southern Tohoku region, and there is a possibility of rain mainly along the mountains.

On the 10th (Saturday), it will rain widely, and it will be unfortunate weather for going out.

The weather will recover on the 11th (Sun), and it seems that sunny weather can be expected in various places.

The maximum temperature is expected to be at or above normal in many places. The further south you go, the higher the humidity, and the daytime feels hot and humid. The risk of heat stroke increases, so try to drink water frequently before you feel thirsty.

When does the rainy season start in the Tohoku region?

Today, the 29th (Monday), the Japan Meteorological Agency announced that the northern part of Kyushu to the Tokai region is said to have entered the rainy season. The rainy season begins six days earlier than normal in the northern Kyushu region, seven days earlier than normal in the Shikoku region, and eight days earlier than normal in the Chugoku, Kinki, and Tokai regions. The beginning of the rainy season in May is the first in 10 years in the Tokai and Kinki regions.

In areas where the rainy season started, the rainy season started earlier than usual, but the rainy season in the Tohoku region is expected to be on par with the average year (around June 12 in the south and around June 15 in the north).

*The rainy season is a seasonal phenomenon, and there is an average period of about 5 days at the beginning of the rainy season. Please note that this announcement of the beginning of the rainy season is a preliminary figure. It will be reviewed and may be revised in the fall.
