Today the trial starts – NRK Norway – Overview of news from different parts of the country

The former Storting politician is accused of having defrauded money from the Storting through a number of incorrect travel expenses.

It was Aftenposten which on April 9, 2019 revealed the cheating with travel expenses.

The newspaper wrote that Hege Haukeland Liadal had swindled over 60,000 kroner, with false bills.

The next day, the Labor politician withdrew from several positions in the party.

Two days after the unveiling chose the Storting to report Liadal.

The prosecution took out in March indictment for gross intentional fraud. The amount was almost twice as much as what Aftenposten had found. In total, it is just over 118,000 kroner, according to the indictment.

For a period of two years, from September 2016 to October 2018, Hege Haukeland Liadal must have submitted a total of 61 incorrect travel invoices to the Storting.

It was the Storting that reported Hege Haukeland Liadal after the revelations in Aftenposten.

Many journeys never took place

According to the indictment, there must have been a lot wrong with the travel expenses. The Storting must thus have covered both expenses Liadal has not had and expenses she should not have been covered:

  • The prosecution believes that almost half of the trips in the indictment were fabricated and never took place.
  • Many trips should not have been linked to the job as a parliamentary representative.
  • Day trips must have been reported as travel with accommodation.
  • Claims for car allowance must have been reported on trips where Liadal had not used his own car.
  • Liadal is said to have demanded travel and board, when she received free transport and dinner.
  • She is said to have stated that the commuter route round trip Haugesund – Oslo was 3800 km longer than it really is.
  • A trip she stated as a commuter trip should actually have been part of a Spain holiday with the family.

Receives severance pay from the Storting during the trial

Liadal was not on from Rogaland Ap’s nomination list to this year’s parliamentary elections.

The Storting has thus given her severance pay until the end of December. It reported DN in October. She thus encounters much of this period in the Oslo District Court accused of fraud against the Storting.

The Labor politician has pleaded guilty to gross negligent fraud, but not to gross intentional fraud – which is what she is accused of.

NRK has not succeeded in getting an interview with Liadal before the trial. On SMS yesterday she answers:

“I do not want to comment on anything until tomorrow in court. It will be felt as if I am proceeding in advance and I will not »

Just over a week ago, she still gave this comment to the local newspaper:

– I made a mistake. Stupid me out. I do not agree with all the errors. But it is I who have been stupid, and there is no one to blame but myself, Liadal added Haugesunds Avis 23rd October.

At the same time, she emphasized that there was never a conscious attempt to enrich herself.

Six weeks have been set aside for the case. Last day in court is December 15.
