BIOGRAPHY

Tobias Pelkner studied with Alfred Rinderspacher at the Mannheim State University of Music and Performing Arts and with Klaus Thunemann at the Hanover University of Music, Theater and Media. In 1992 he won first prize at the German Music Competition with the Diaphonia Quintet, which was followed by numerous tours, including to Spain, England, Ireland and the Ukraine, as well as radio recordings and appearances at renowned festivals. From 1995 to 2009 he was principal bassoonist at the Stuttgart State Opera and was also a guest principal bassoonist with numerous major German symphony orchestras, including the Munich Philharmonic and the SWR Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra. He also played with numerous opera orchestras, including at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Hamburg State Opera and the Semperoper Dresden. In 2007, after many years of private teaching, he was appointed professor of bassoon at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater. Tobias Pelkner has been a professor at the Detmold University of Music since 2008.
