What are the advantages for the hypothetical Snapdragon 875?
Unless the nomenclature changes, the next chipset Qualcomm’s top of the range should be called Snapdragon 875. We said above: it would be engraved in 5 nm, to stand up in particular to the Apple A14 which will also take advantage of this fine engraving.
What does it change ? The finer the etching can be done, the more transistors can be integrated on the circuit. Transistors which offer – roughly – two possibilities to the manufacturers: to increase the performances of the telephone, or to reduce its electric consumption and, in fine, improve their autonomy.
More than autonomy, this time the speed of recharging should be highlighted by Qualcomm with its new chip. With the Snapdragon 875, smartphones will be able to support recharging up to 100 W! This is more, for example than what the AC adapter of a laptop.
Xiaomi had already demonstrated such technology, which would allow a smartphone to fully charge in just 17 minutes.
In addition to these additions, it is also said that the Snapdragon X60 modem will support mmWaves – the famous millimeter waves of 5G which offer the most interesting speeds.
Science fiction, for us French who do not yet take advantage of the Sub-6 Ghz waves, but for which it will still charge a surplus on our next smartphones. Whether you want to benefit from it or not.
