to counter UberEats and Deliveroo, bicycle delivery men launch their own more ethical platform

In Dijon, alongside the giants specializing in meal delivery, a new service is trying to find a place. A2ROO is an association of bicycle delivery men, salaried delivery men and that is what makes all the difference.

Xavier Caron is not a bicycle delivery man like the others. Co-founder of the A2ROO association, he is not an independent worker but an employee, and that changes everything. “We wanted to restore a little ethics and quality by offering a more global quality service with standard salary conditions”, he specifies.

The monthly minimum wage (1,500 euros gross), social cover, the right to unemployment: with the associative status, couriers come out of precariousness. An approach fully approved by the restaurateur David Zuddas. “I actively participated in the creation of A2ROO. Because being a bit militant, I refused the models that were offered to us. I will not mention the names but everyone knows the major platforms, which in my opinion are not very virtuous. “

Deliveries: an ethical alternative?

The association’s platform has been running for a week. Five restaurateurs are already registered, also seduced by the commission levied, less expensive than elsewhere. “We will say that it is different from all other online ordering media. It is something that remains local, that is displayed on an ethics somewhere. In terms of commission, it has nothing to do with it. . We have the impression of working more for ourselves, a little less for others “, says the restaurateur Aurélien Brenans.

Five delivery men already hired

A2ROO should soon become a SCOP (a cooperative and participatory society). Others have sprung up all over France, and abroad thanks to free software, Coopcycle, which brings together bicycle delivery cooperatives.

“At the start of the adventure, four years ago, it started with a cooperative in Brussels. Today, there are about sixty cooperatives in France, Germany, England, Canada and around the world, says Xavier Caron. A2ROO employs five delivery people and hopes to be able to hire more quickly.
