Walmart Announces Sale of Used Items from Popular Brands
For its part, Walmart announced on Wednesday a partnership with the well-known reselling platform ThredUp to sell clothing, shoes, bags, among other products from brands that have previously marketed through its website.
This marks the first foray by the world’s largest retailer into the resale market.
The company said it started planning the initiative a year ago and that they had decided to launch it now because they were at a time when the pandemic has forced many households to be even more budget conscious and adjust spending amid declines in hours of work and job losses, according to CNN.
Walmart’s drive-up drive, which follows similar efforts by retailers like Nordstrom and Abercrombie & Fitch, should also appeal to younger consumers who are increasingly motivated by environmentally conscious shopping options, said Denise Incandela, Walmart.com fashion e-commerce director, in a statement.
