Title: Electricity Production Surges by 13% in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region in 2023, Contributing to France’s Leading Net Electricity Exporter Status

Electricity production increased… 13% in 2023 in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The clear downward trend in French consumption that began in the fall of 2022 continued throughout 2023 at the national level as well as in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, noted RTE, which manages the network of ‘ electricity

In Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, consumption for the year 2023 (corrected for weather and calendar risks) is therefore down 4.8% compared to 2022. A greater reduction than at national level: – 3.2% compared to 2022.

A decline that occurred while production, on the other hand, saw a significant increase: + 13%. Which represents about a quarter of national production in 2023 and about twice as much annual consumption in the sector.

Nuclear production is largely responsible for this strong growth: it rose to 83.6 TWh (ie +14% compared to 2022).

Hydroelectricity production in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes has also increased: to 26.7 TWh.

Likewise, solar production in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes stood at 2.4 TWh in 2023, jumping 15.6% compared to 2022.

Less growth for wind production, on the other hand, +4.4%, or a total capacity of 742 MW.

Finally, good news for the planet, fossil thermal production in the region has fallen by half compared to 2022, going from 2.9 TWh to 1.4 TWh…

With these good results, after the crisis in French electricity production in 2022, France again became the leading net electricity exporting country in Europe in 2023 at 50.1 TWh.

The electrical interconnection lines in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes have contributed significantly to these exchanges.
