On Thursday, April 28, boys between the ages of 13 and 16 can get to know the professions of geriatric nurses, nurses and educators up close and personal in a variety of workshops. The event begins at 9 a.m. and lasts three hours. The venue is the St. Raphael Senior Center in Titisee-Neustadt, Schottenbühlstrasse 70. Registration is online at https://www.boys-day.de. Those who take part in the event will be given the opportunity to do so by the school.
So-called VR glasses (VR = virtual reality) are used to bring the professions closer to the boys. They make it possible to immerse yourself virtually in everyday work and to experience the world of the nursing profession 360 degrees. A professionally run, transmedia traveling exhibition provides information on the subjects of training, studies, life planning and role models, enriched with useful online links. You will need your own smartphone and headphones to take part. Free WiFi is available.
“With the event, we want to encourage people to get involved with jobs that boys have so far not had on their radar screens because of typical gender clichés, even though they have the talent for it,” says Andrea Klimak, the representative for equal opportunities on the job market.
Experts and trainees from a number of institutions lead through the diverse workshops. Involved are: Senior Center St. Raphael, Helios Clinic Titisee-Neustadt, several day-care centers, Freiburg Employment Agency and Jobcenter Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald.
The Boys’ Day event is organized by the Freiburg employment agency, the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald job center and the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district office.
