Titanes de Barranquilla presented this Thursday at the Elías Chegwin Coliseum the team with which it will compete in the Basketball Champions League Americas (BCLA), a tournament in which it will participate with the illusion of representing Colombian basketball in the best way.

The team led by Tomás Díaz will share a group with Real Estelí, from Nicaragua, and Caballos de Coclé, from Panama. The Nicaraguans will be the first test for the Barranquilla, who will travel to Nicaragua next Monday to face their first matches.

One of those who spoke in the run-up to the debut in this tournament was the president of the institution, Alberto Caparroso, who made it known that they had already sent a request to the authorities of the city of Barranquilla to be able to host an audience in the month of March, when It is their turn to officiate as locals.

“We have sent a formal request to the Barranquilla authorities to be able to have between 10% and 15% of the public in the stands, it would be between 300 and 400 fans plus the press staff. We believe that the coliseum complies with all biosecurity measures necessary for this to be allowed, “said Caparroso.

“It is already a fact that we will receive Real Estelí and Caballos de Coclé at Elías Chegwin, which becomes a challenge for the Club, as it will be one more opportunity to be able to leave Barranquilla on top. However, for the moment these games will be in a ‘bubble’ format due to the pandemic we are experiencing, but all games can be enjoyed through the Directv Sports signal, “he added.

Another of those who expressed his opinion before traveling to Central America for the first matches was coach Tomás Díaz, who believes that the team has strengthened in a good way.

“This time Titanes has reinforced all their lines, seeking to be competitive all the time. We are always looking to improve and this year will not be the exception. The players who have arrived are to help the final goal,” said the coach.

It should be noted that there will be 12 combined participants, divided into 4 groups of three members each. The first from each zone will advance to the Final Four, which would be played in April this year in Montevideo, Uruguay.
