Tirso Martínez Sánchez, drug trafficker to whom the Mexican Soccer Federation (FMF) paid 14 million dollars to recover two football clubs, he will be released from a US jail in three years.
The Footballer, as he was also known, was sentenced to seven years in prison by Judge Brian Cogan – who led the “Trial of the Century” against Chapo Guzmán – however the four years in which he has been imprisoned since his extradition to the United States will be taken into account in December 2015.
Martínez Sánchez was arrested in the city of León in 2014. He was investigated by US authorities accused of trafficking at least 50 tons of cocaine, mainly to the cities of Chicago, Los Angeles and New York.
The low sentence was due to the fact that football player He was one of the witnesses against Joaquín Guzmán Loera, with whom he worked at the beginning of the millennium managing and leading a train network to pass drugs between 2000 and 2003, during which time he bought four professional football clubs: Deer, La Piedad, Querétaro and Irapuato.
