Tim Cook voted second highest paid CEO in the world in 2021

The CEO of Apple, however, remains very far from the first on the list, a certain Elon Musk…

Every year, Fortune unveils its list of the 500 greatest fortunes in the world. The names taken up are often well known and the figures revealed literally make you dizzy. But another ranking attracts attention this time: Fortune 500 executives who have acquired the most money over the past year.

Unsurprisingly, it is Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk who tickles the stars in the rankings, with 23.5 billion dollars generated in the calendar year 2021. An impressive figure that almost ridicules other CEOs (or CEO, in French) of the world’s largest companies.

More surprisingly, however, is Apple CEO Tim Cook’s position in this year’s ranking. If, last year, he was only in 8th position with “only” 265 million dollars earned in 2020, the president of Apple is now on the second step of the podium. He has indeed earned $ 770.5 million in 2021, a figure never reached for the native of Alabama.

Far from being the highest paid CEO

This incredible rise in the rankings is amazing, especially since Cook is not known to be the highest paid CEO in Silicon Valley, let alone in the world. Despite a year 2021 during which it will have cost his company nearly $ 100 million, the boss of Apple can boast of having allowed his company to reach records on the stock market and in capitalization.

“He earned $770.5 million in 2021 alone, mostly in a 10-year equity award worth $1.7 billion. But his incredible compensation may be justified by Apple’s stock market performance under Cook: the tech company’s market value rose by $2.2 trillion during his tenure. mandate”launches Fortune magazine. “Apple ranks third in the Fortune 500. The company has faced challenges due to global chip shortages, but has managed to start manufacturing the hardware in-house. Apple ended the year with a gargantuan profit of $95 billion, surpassing all other American companies on this count.

Impressive figures that reflect the record year experienced by Apple and its leader. While he was paid $3 million over the year, Cook earned most of his money from stock awards.

The rest of the ranking is only made up of Fortune 500 big names. Jensen Huang, the president of Nvidia, closes the podium with 561 million dollars earned. Then follow Reed Hastings (Netflix – $453.5 million), Leonard Schleifer (Regeneron Pharmaceuticals – $452.9 million), Marc Benioff (Salesforce – $439.4 million), Satya Nadella (Microsoft – $309.4 million) , Robert Kotick (Activision Blizzard – $296.7 million), Hock E. Tan (Broadcom – $288 million) and Safra A. Catz (Oracle – $239.5 million). So beautiful people…
