Tim Burton’s Netflix Series REVIEW :: Blog on Today

There is something wrong with Wednesday by Tim Burtonsomething that doesn’t convince, something that even annoys and it’s Wednesday Addams herself, the protagonist of this new Netflix series that aims to tell the story of an iconic character of the Addams family but who, in the end, turned out to be anything but interesting or worthy of becoming the star of a TV series. Tim Burton has created a series that seemed promising but which navigated between the genres of fantasy and dark mystery, to the point of passing through the teen drama without ever being able to find its rightful place and told a story where, to be placed on display, it was only the unbearable cynicism of its protagonist who, of all, is the worst character, as well as the only one who never evolves and does not show a minimum of inner change.

The plot of Wednesday revolves around a mystery to be solved, this great killer monster to be identified and despite some cinematographic references thrown here and there like the atmospheres Harry Potter or the modern remake of the legendary prom blood scene from Carrie by Brian De Palma, this series fails to involve the viewer at all, on the contrary, it drives him away.

Tim Burton may have made some errors of judgment thinking that Wednesday’s character, a girl without feelings, cynical and expressionless could somehow please, strike the audience, fascinate him but it didn’t happen. Even the most minor character in the story proves more interesting than her and if there was anyone who could give an extra push to this fairly simplistic plot it was the characters played by Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán, Morticia and Gomez Addams to whom , however, very few scenes were reserved, as well as for Uncle Fester.

Boring, repetitive, not very dynamic and with a protagonist so closed within the walls of her cynicism as to become unbearable, this eight-episode series makes you want to abandon it after only the first episode and perhaps it would be for the best because even when you get to the end you will not have received a lot in terms of emotions.
