Tim Burton: Sequel to “Beetlejuice” has been filmed
35 years ago, US director Tim Burton had a surprise hit with “Beetlejuice”. Now there will be a sequel with a star cast. Filming is complete.
The long-planned “Beetlejuice” sequel is in the can. The US director said he had just finished filming Tim Burton (65, “Batman”, “Alice in Wonderland”) on Instagram. In the post he thanked everyone involved. Due to the actors’ strike in the USA, many film productions were temporarily stopped. The strike was recently resolved and filming has since started again.
36 years after the surprise hit “Beetlejuice” (1988), the sequel is scheduled to hit cinemas in September next year. Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara are back on board. New additions include Willem Dafoe, Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci and Justin Theroux.
The original horror comedy revolved around a dead couple (played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) who want to stay in their mansion. They hire the crazy poltergeist Beetlejuice (Keaton) to scare away the newly moved-in residents (Ryder as a teenage daughter).
When filming started in June, Keaton (72) told the film website “Empire Online” that it was “so damn fun” to improvise and invent things on set. He hasn’t had this much fun at work in a long time.
