“Tim Bachman, Guitarist and Founding Member of Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Dies at 71”

Bachman’s son shared the news of the guitarist’s death on Friday. He regularly reported on his father’s health on his Facebook page.

“My father passed away this afternoon,” he wrote. “Thanks everyone for the kind words,” Ryder wrote. “I’m grateful that I was able to spend some time with him in the end. Put your arms around your loved ones and hug them, you never know how much time you have left.”

In a post from the previous day, he recalled the last moments with his father.

“I was sitting with Dad yesterday afternoon and reminiscing about some of the good times we had,” he wrote at the time. “He was pretty out of it most of the time, but at one point he would look up at me with wide eyes and say, ‘I love you Paxton, let’s join the music…’ and then pass out again. It’s really hard when you see your parents lying in bed helpless and sick and there’s nothing you can do to help them. This breaks my heart. I’m grateful for the time we got to spend together.”

Bachman-Turner Overdrive was founded in 1973 by brothers Tim, Robbie and Randy. Tim eventually left the band and Blair Thornton took his place until he rejoined the band for a 1984 reunion tour. The group is best known for their song “Takin’ Care of Business” and their single “Let It Ride” peaked in the Top 40.
