Three people in Spain die after being impaled by bull | Abroad

The third victim, a French tourist in his 60s, was hospitalized in critical condition in early July after being impaled in a village near Alicante. He passed away earlier this week.

The running of the bulls, which is a tradition in Spain especially during the summer when places celebrate their patron saint, regularly claims victims, despite protocols designed to prevent this type of accident.

The most famous bull runs are in northern Pamplona each year, where hundreds of runners try to get as close as possible to six fighting bulls in an 850-meter race in the cobbled city streets. This year, a total of five people were impaled during the festivities, but no one was seriously injured. Since 1911, however, at least 16 runners have lost their lives there.
