Léa Rouzic, you are president of the Amicale pour le don du sang de Quimperlé, can you explain why giving is important?
A blood donation saves three lives. The blood collected very often goes to young mothers or to the injured and the sick. In Brittany, we are lucky to have many donors. In Finistère, there are 40 associations. In Quimperlé, we receive an average of 200 donors at each collection, we are proud of them! But in many places, supplies are at their lowest. The more pockets there are, the more we can redistribute them.
Who can donate?
To donate, you must be between 18 and 70 years old and weigh at least 50 kg. People are very misinformed. One day I met a black person who thought she couldn’t give. We need all blood, poor or rich, people come with their hearts. Especially since when you give, the identity is not written on the pocket. There is a number, so that at the sorting center in Rennes, professionals can find the contact details of the donor if they encounter a problem. There are transfused people who would like to give, to give thanks, but it is not yet authorized.
Can we donate if we have been infected with covid-19?
Yes, but you have to wait about two weeks after contamination and no longer have any symptoms. We do not require the vaccination pass, vaccinated or not, everyone can donate.
