three concerts to study the anti-contagion measures in major events

In Germany, and more precisely in Saxony, yesterday 22 August a research team from the Medical University of Halle headed by Doctor Stefan Moritz, conducted a study called “Restart-19”To assess the security measures that could be adopted to allow concerts to be held again in the large arenas.

The Quarterback real estate in Leipzig, an arena that normally has a capacity of 12,200 people in the case of shows and 8,000 in the case of sporting events. For the occasion, the capacity was reduced to 4,000. The final participation in the study was 1,500 volunteers in good health and previously tested for COVID-19.

The experiment was conducted with three different scenarios on the occasion of three different concerts by the singer-songwriter Tim Bendzko: one without social distancing measures, one with sanitation, masks and reduced distancing measures and the third with more restrictive measures, reduced audience by 50% and spacing of at least 1.5 meters between people.

In order to map audience behavior, the participants were also equipped with sensors that detected their position and distance from each other and fluorescent disinfectants were used to determine which surfaces they touched.

The final results of the dataset collected by the research team will be released in the fall. The hope is that this project, financed with almost one million euros by the German federal states of Saxony-Anhalt and Saxony, will lay the foundations for guidelines to be used for the recovery of the entertainment sector, one of the most affected by the crisis. from the pandemic.

The Minister of Economy, Science and Digitization of Saxony-Anhalt, Armin Willingmann, declares:

“The pandemic is paralyzing the entertainment industry. As long as there is a risk of infection, large concerts, fairs and sporting events cannot take place. This is why it is important to understand which technical and organizational conditions can be put in place to minimize the risk “.
