Three birds escaped: Missing, gone, caught in the chimney: crazy parrot weeks in Graz

For hours on Wednesday a Burrowing Parakeet fluttered around the high-rise building of the Styria Medien Center on Gadollaplatz 1 opposite the Stadthalle. The green parrot, registered with a ring, apparently got away – and has not yet been found by its owner. The owner has not yet contacted the Kleine Zeitung despite a call. The animal rescue – neither from the professional fire brigade nor from active animal protection – move out to an operation because it has no chance of success. The bird would have to come into the building through a window – it cannot be caught in the wild, according to the information: the keeper needs to be there in order to be able to successfully catch the animal. We are also grateful for any information sent to [email protected]. Yesterday, the excited parakeet was at the high-rise building until evening, where employees gave him pieces of apple to strengthen him.

But there are apparently crazy parrot weeks in the Graz area at the moment. As the first indications of our call show, apparently three birds got along. In Fernitz, an animal rescue mission of active animal protection and the volunteer fire brigade ran yesterday. An escaped parrot was trapped in a chimney. Animal protection chairman Karl Forstner did not have good news: the bird could not be retrieved and the operation had to be stopped. The caller didn’t want the fireplace to open.

A woman from Graz was luckier, whose sun parakeet “Schamsi” escaped at the beginning of July. This one flew to someone on Karmeliterplatz and is now in the home of the State Animal Welfare Association until its owner returns from vacation.
