Tens of thousands of supporters Palestine marchers flooded the streets of the capital of the United States (US), Washington, DC, on Saturday (4/11) to protest Israel’s war with Hamas and the bombing of Gaza.

The crowd also demonstrated outside the White House, calling for a ceasefire and an end to the conflict as well as US support for Israel.

Protesters gathered at Freedom Plaza on Saturday (4/11) afternoon local time and shouted against what they called genocide in Gaza. Among the speakers was rapper Macklemore, who told thousands of pro-Palestinian supporters that he was “not afraid” to speak out against the war.

“We’ve been told not to get involved to protect our careers, to protect our interests, and I won’t do it again,” Macklemore said on stage at Freedom Plaza before a crowd of cheering protesters, he was quoted as saying The TribuneSunday (5/11).

“I know enough that this is genocide,” he added.

Protesters beat drums, blew trumpets, waved Palestinian flags and stormed across DC to speak out against the war. They also held up posters calling on the US to no longer support Israel and to end the bombs dropped on Gaza, which have killed more than 9,000 people.

Mohamad Ali, 35, traveled all the way from Boston, Massachusetts, to attend the demonstration. Ali said he was dismayed by Palestinian “child killings” and called for an immediate ceasefire.

“I see Israel as an occupation entity that comes and takes over the land of the Palestinian people,” said Ali.

Israel is waging a major war against the Palestinian militant group Hamas, which launched a surprise attack on October 7, 2023 and killed more than 1,400 Israelis and took more than 200 people hostage.

Following the Hamas attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to completely destroy Hamas in retaliation, but rejected calls for a ceasefire. The Israeli military continues to bombard the Gaza Strip and even intends to evacuate Gaza under the pretext of eradicating Hamas.

At Saturday’s demonstration, thousands of Palestinian supporters chanted US President Joe Biden’s name and accused him of genocide. The US government has repeatedly said that Israel has the right to defend itself after being attacked by Hamas.
