Thousands of volunteers and 1 robot in action during World Cleanup Day

In Utrecht, waste was collected by volunteers from Elevation Events. Normally this organization organizes festivals, but today they walked around with prods and grippers.

“We think it is important to keep the nature areas we use clean,” says Robin Sandifort of Elevation Events. RTV Utrecht. “We have therefore chosen to clean in the areas where our festivals are.”

‘Fairly clean’

Fishing wires, cigarette butts, straws, forks and even dirty underpants took the volunteers off the beach of IJmuiden. “It always scares me, but I have to say that it is still reasonably clean here,” said photographer Johanna Minnaard, who has created a photo exhibition about disposable plastics.

Mareile Zuber organized one of the initiatives to clean up nature in IJmuiden. On behalf of the BRAK organization, she is committed to a cleaner living environment. “I think it’s important that we take action instead of just talking about climate and environmental issues,” she says NH News.

The banks of the Meuse in Limburg are also clean again. At least 5000 volunteers took part in the MaasCleanup, an action to which according to 1Limburg more and more companies and organizations are connecting.

In total, litter is being cleaned up in more than 180 countries today.
