Thousands of Georgians take to the streets after cameraman’s death

Thousands of people have demonstrated in the Georgian capital Tbilisi after the violent death of cameraman Alexander Lashkarava. The demonstrators demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Garibashvili and his interior minister at the parliament building.

They hold the government responsible for the anti-gay violence at the beginning of this week. Then the office of an LGBTI organization in the capital was stormed by a mob. The organization was planning a Pride march.

Dozens of journalists covering the attack were beaten up, including Lashkarava. He was picked up by his mother this morning found dead in his bedhis employer reports. The Interior Ministry says it is investigating Lashkarava’s death.

Commemoration in Amsterdam

The Netherlands also commemorated the death of Lashkarava and the attack on the Georgian LGBTI community. Flowers were laid at the Homomonument in Amsterdam in memory of the cameraman and to show support to journalists.
