Those who wait “make a mistake”

Those who wait “are making a mistake”, warns Alain Fischer, the “Mister Vaccine” of the government, while the anti-Covid vaccine campaign is running out of steam.

Asked about these people from 18 to 45 years old who prefer to wait, the president of the Orientation Council for the vaccination strategy insists in the Sunday Journal: “By being vaccinated today, we are protected for the start of the school year”.

“Everything will be played out in the next two weeks” to avoid, according to him, “a fourth wave linked both to the Delta variant, to the resumption of contacts, to the start of the school year, to the climate more favorable to the virus”.

Alain Fischer also addresses those who think they are protected after a first injection: “This is not enough. It is demonstrated with regard to the Delta variant. A single injection protects at 50 or 60%. With two doses, c ‘is 90% “.

For the official, “the battle will be more difficult for 18-40 year olds: projections estimate that they will be vaccinated at 60-70% in the end (45% today). The projected rates are insufficient to control the virus and achieve group immunity “.

And to prevent: “There will remain infections, hospitalizations, admissions to intensive care and deaths. With potentially consequences in terms of restrictions: school closures, re-containment …”

The “Mr. Vaccine” finally says he is in favor of compulsory vaccination for caregivers and staff in nursing homes. “For these professionals, we have reached this point of last resort. Less than 60% coverage in nursing homes, 64% in hospitals, this is clearly insufficient”.

In an attempt to relaunch the vaccination campaign in the population, the Minister of Health Olivier Véran announced on Friday a relaxation of the framework. From Monday, candidates for vaccination will be able to make an appointment for two injections in two different places, including their place of vacation.
