“Those who do not understand, too bad”

In an interview for the magazine Numéro, Damso confided in the special relationship he has with his audience.

The most listened to French-speaking rapper in the world recently broke records on Spotify with his album QALF Infinity. Despite its sixteen million listenings in one day, Damso is linked to only a small part of its audience. While communicating directly with his fans, the artist has chosen to offer a complex universe, which extends beyond the musical sphere. A philosophy that he inculcates in the acronym QALF: who likes like follow. He spoke about it during a portrait unveiled in the magazine Number.

Damso passionate about sound

The artist persists and signs, his music is dedicated to “those who are really interested in what fascinates me: sound,” he says. Not those who spend their time asking questions. If people get stuck on the mysterious side, it’s because they don’t really follow me ”. And the singer isn’t afraid to say what he thinks, but at least he says it. “Those who don’t understand, too bad. It’s hard, but it’s really my direction, ”he says.

For Damso, we should stop trying to understand everything. Because art does not in itself aim to be transparent, and can also remain unanswered. “I find that it is better to enjoy a song by simply listening to it, rather than spending your time trying to interpret a text”, continues the rapper. “I write things as they come to me. I think it’s difficult to explain everything ”. In his desire to simply be listened to, Damso is fed up with being constantly deciphered, as if he were a mystery.

In the rest of the news: Nelick: “I feel too bad in my time”.
