PV systems could become up to 19 percent cheaper this year because the sales tax was reduced to zero percent. Until now, system operators have struggled to achieve these savings by registering the system as a business. The fact that this is no longer necessary is a win-win for everyone, as the procedure used to be cumbersome and error-prone. And buyers can reap another gift: profits from solar input from systems up to 30 kilowatts peak no longer need to be taxed.
The simplicity of the rules for new acquisitions in the future is discussed pv magazine-Editor Cornelia Lichner with Thomas Seltmann. He is a specialist at the German Solar Industry Association (BSW-Solar) and was the author of the PV magazine– “Tax Tips” header. Seltmann expects that in future the new regulation will also convince customers who have previously avoided the bureaucratic burden associated with photovoltaic systems.
Existing systems and battery storage
He also discusses how existing PV system operators can streamline their tax returns in the future, even if they still have to pay sales tax for now. Another question is the question of how installation companies deal with the new rule and which services and products also benefit from the zero tax rate, such as battery storage or the installation of associated system components.
